Blog > Outer Banks Roof Grant: What OBX Homeowners Need to Know
How the Strengthen Your Roof Program Works
The application process is straightforward and user-friendly, with minimal hassle. Most approvals happen within a few weeks. Once approved, the roof replacement itself can often be completed in just one day. This is especially helpful if your Outer Banks home is part of a rental program and you are working around booking schedules. Here is the link: LINK
What If You Don’t Have NCJUA Coverage
If your wind and hail insurance is not currently through NCJUA, consider speaking with your insurance agent about switching. This may allow you to qualify when the grant becomes available again. Several of my clients and homeowners have already made the switch and are now moving forward with roof replacements.
Why This Matters When Selling Your Outer Banks Home
A recently replaced or fortified roof is becoming a strong appealing point in the OBX market. Many buyers are now aware of the Strengthen Your Roof Program and often expect updated roofing, especially in coastal properties.
Real Example: Outer Banks Roof Replacement
I personally used this program in 2025 and replaced the roofs on three of my rental properties—a single-family home and a duplex in Kill Devil Hills, and another single-family home in Colington. The roofs were small and simple and did not require additional work, so I paid $0 out of pocket, and my insurance premium adjusted as well. If your roof is larger, has a more complex layout, or requires additional work, you will be responsible for the difference between the final cost and the $10,000 grant amount.
